Sasha Adler's Home is Rising to the Occasion

We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!

With a background in fashion from her days in New York — not to mention an enduring passion for it since her childhood — Sasha Adler never imagined that her career would take her into the world of interior design. But after 14 years spent working for Nate Berkus Associates in her hometown of Chicago, she came to realize that it truly was a calling. She has since ventured out on her own with her own namesake firm, Sasha Adler Design.

To this day she still finds strong correlation between fashion and interiors, which she naturally translates into her design work through color palettes, decorative details and a healthy mix of vintage and contemporary elements. One of her main goals has always been to convey her client's personal narrative, which she achieves by utilizing both the existing architectural beauty of their space, and the sensibilities of bespoke.

Read on to find out who her style icons are from fashion to interiors, and how her home has adapted for working remotely.

What’s helping you get through quarantine? What are you excited to do once it ends?
My kids' energy and spirit have been getting me through quarantine. From their perspective, this has been a magical time where the pace of our lives has slowed down considerably, and we’ve gotten to spend more quality time together. We sit around the dinner table laughing, without feeling rushed to move on to the next thing. We have enjoyed lazy days at home baking and playing games still in pajamas when the sun sets. Through their eyes I’m able to see how special this time is together.

With that said, I miss traveling so much. I cannot wait to pack my bags and hit the road when this is all behind us.

What kinds of design additions or changes have you made to your home since quarantine began?
It has literally been musical chairs in our home. I have always been known to shift pieces from room to room, but since quarantine started, our home has really had to rise up to the occasion with everyone homeschooling/ working from home.

Since my husband claimed what was previously our shared office space, what was previously a decorative antique bureau plat, now houses my large computer set up on it and serves as my office/zoom central. Let’s just say every surface in our home has become less decorative and more of a workhorse than ever intended.

Who is your ultimate style icon?
From a fashion perspective, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. And from an interiors perspective, probably Jean Royere. Both are classic and timeless, yet have a unique, awe-inspiring perspective.

What is the most memorable career moment you've had so far?
Launching my own interior design firm two years ago was definitely the most career-defining moment thus far. It was terrifying, empowering and exhilarating all at once.

Do you collect anything?
Oh, yes. I collect everything, though my husband calls it hoarding. You could say that I collect vintage lighting, and that I'm amassing quite a large collection of vintage & antique chairs (or pairs of chairs) that I do not currently have a home for. Most are pieces that I fell in love with at first sight and just needed to own. They will find a way into one of our homes down the road.
