Giuseppe’s Stuffed Animal Repair Tutorial

Giuseppe is often found with a stuffed animal the size of him in his mouth. He loves to bite, tug, and pummel his favorite little friends. So I am constantly checking his toys in and out of the toy hospital.

This time around, his Lamb Chop doll took quite the beating - her stuffing was pulled out, her squeaker was damaged, and one of her ears were missing! So it was time to get to work repairing one of Giuseppe’s favorite little pals. Read on to find out exactly how I did it

If you have a great local fabric or craft shop, I recommend you give them a visit. The quality and selection of what you can find will probably be much higher. But if you’re like me and the only thing near you is a Michael’s, you can still find everything you need for this project. I’ve also included Amazon links below if you’d like to shop from the comfort of your home.

For this specific project, I purchased an inexpensive Sherpa fabric, which worked very well. The color and texture complemented the rest of Lamb Chop, and the plush qualities of the fabric helped the ears sit nicely in the end.

As for the other supplies I’ve listed, they’re all things a dog parent needs to keep around the house if they intend on doing repairs. Many people don’t realize that you can purchase replacement squeakers of varying sizes, or even replacement squeaker pins for toys that have a more advanced squeaker, or toys where the toy itself is the body of the squeaker.

And there’s nothing more satisfying than reviving a deflated toy with fresh polyfil. And this is the perfect opportunity to stuff your pup’s toy to the degree they prefer: Soft and squishy with little stuffing, or taut and plump.

Repair Supplies

Speaking of customization, the repair process is always a great excuse to customize the number of squeakers in your dog’s toy. With a bag full of replacement squeakers, you can add them to the head of the animal, or place multiple in the body for more engaging play, if that’s what your dog prefers.

Have fun with the process. Nothing about it has to be perfect. After all, I am not an expert at hand-sewing. But Giuseppe loves and appreciates whenever I bring a friend of his back to life, and in the end, that always makes the repair process rewarding.

Until next time!
