4 ASMR Gentle Whispering Videos That Are Helping Me Sleep

If you've never heard of ASMR, you must be living under a YouTube rock...or maybe you spend your time doing productive things, instead of watching hours of short videos on the internet. But ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is the euphoric sensation  one gets when hearing satisfyingly relaxing noises like tapping, crinkling, or the sound of someone whispering.

People have been able to use 3D microphones (Meaning microphones that can record in 360 degrees and convey that stereo sound direction accurately to those wearing headphones) to create this sensation in video form accompanied by relaxing imagery. It has taken over the YouTube world by storm with even Vogue's YouTube channel getting in on it by I guess having random celebrities tap on things while hastily whispering into microphones, as if that's all it takes.

Many people are getting into the trend. Even I have my own soft-spoken ASMR video on my channel. But it's truly an artform that you have to build up to being able to successfully achieve on a regular basis. And even the #1 ASMRtist (ASMR artist) ASMR Darling basically does what they do in the Vogue videos. After PewDiePie poked fun at her on his channel, she blew up in views and subscribers after only doing this a short amount of time. This boost from the famous YouTuber really took the genre to a whole other level.

But everyone knows that ASMR took its first steps to becoming mainstream after Russian-American YouTuber Maria of Gentle Whispering ASMR came out with a video that went viral back in 2012 titled *_* Oh such a good 3D-sound ASMR video *_*She is  considered one of the OG's of the trade, still having one of the most active accounts out there. She was also the first ASMRtist to reach 1 million subscribers. Let her, the expert, explain what ASMR is. Headphones on everyone!

Ever since I found Maria's channel two years ago, I have been using it to fall asleep every single night. I used to suffer from insomnia and pace back and forth or stare at the wall all night. But after discovering that ASMR really gets to me, I have been sleeping like a baby. I also use these videos to calm myself during a stressful day at work. It always reminds me of my warm bed now that I use it to go to sleep.

I personally only experience "tingles" or the ASMR sensation from watching Maria's videos. Very rarely do I find other channels that have the qualities I like from hers. So all of my current favorites will be from her channel. The following are the 4 videos helping me fall asleep recently. Maybe they'll help to relax you too! While ASMR should not be used as a substitute to formal or professional medical treatments, it can really help you sleep or stay calm, which I think we can all agree is an objectively good thing.

Headphones on!

Worldly Sounds Assortment

In this New Year's Eve themed video, Maria does a show and tell of objects she's picked up from around the world. This video features gentle ear to ear whispering, tapping on said objects and burning crackling matches. She ends the video by whispering Happy New Year in several different languages.

I even used the mp3 version of this on an airplane to fall asleep recently. Worked like a charm.

Cooking with Blue Apron

Normally, I roll my eyes at a sponsored post. But Maria, being the queen of quality, certainly did not let us down with this Blue Apron sponsored video. As someone who loves to cook, I find it therapeutic to watch ingredients come together. And she moves so slowly while creating her dish that everything she does is ridiculously accurate...making me thing I should maybe slow down in the kitchen sometimes and relax. This video features the sounds of chopping, sizzling and beer being poured. Mmmmm...

We Shell Relax

My newest obsession is this shell-themed video of Maria's. In it, she roleplays as someone who owns a novelty store on the beach. The video features the sounds of tapping on shells, the whirrof the inside of a shell, the sounds of ocean waves rolling, and my favorite: an incredible glass orb filled with sand and shells being rotated gently.

Metal Elements

Recently, Maria has been creating a series of videos on the five elements, and what traits each element possess that make them unique to individuals that identify with them. So far she's done fire, Earth and metal, with metal being my favorite. I've learned through these videos that I don't identify with any of those three elements! But I love to hear Maria talk about them anyway. This video features the sounds of metal cogs spinning, a key turning in a vintage lock and a brass singing bowl. Maybe it just might help you realize you're a metal person!

I hope these videos can be helpful to any of you who suffer from problems falling or staying asleep. The best way I've noticed to help ASMR work for you is to ignore anything you find cheesy or strange. Just go with the flow and see what the person has to offer you. And if that person doesn't make you feel relaxed, feel free to pop over to another ASMRtist. There are countless channels with something for everyone. But I can almost guarantee that if you give Maria a try, she will always remain one of your favorites.

Thanks for checking out this article. Until we meet again!
