Mission Cheese | A Foodie Review

NEIGHBORHOOD: MISSION DISTRICT
WHAT TO ORDER:
Cheese flights and cider: Not only should that be the title of my autobiography one day, but it’s also what I suggest you give a whirl at this establishment. This restaurant has the most consistently delicious selection cheeses I’ve ever experienced, and beer and cider that perfectly compliment each dish. For those of you who want something heartier, they also have comfort food from mac and cheese to sandwiches.
WHEN TO VISIT:
The trendy environment and menu transition well from lunch to late night dinner. During the day, this place is great to head to with a few co-workers or during a day of Valencia Street shopping, and at night is a fantastic date night spot that’s intimate enough to not create too much noise. It’s easy to have a conversation there and it’s even better if your date can appreciate a fine 14 month-aged bandage wrapped cheddar.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Expect the cheese selection to change each time. If there’s a specific cheese brand, region or treatment you were hoping to try, call in advance to confirm that it’s available that day. Is the food ultra filling? Not really. But the cheese plates aren’t really something you’d order if you were in the mood to chow down. The wait staff is also trained to educate you on the brands, regions and treatments of the cheeses you order. It’s an informative and sophisticated experience, which I recommend to those with or even without an intense cheese palate.
SIDENOTE:
If there’s a cheese you just can’t get enough of, feel free to purchase some on your way out. And if you want to impress your next dinner party guests, just ask them to write down some details of the product for you as well. Also, if given a day or so, they’re able to create custom cheese combinations for large parties for small cutting fees. See photo above of recent cheese plates I had them put together for an old work event of mine.
