Michelle Visage's "Diva Rules" | A Review
Finally. It's happened to me.
I have officially finished Michelle Visage's book The Diva Rules. And just for the record *ahem Peppermint,* I have something to say.
For those of you who don't know, The Diva Rules is an autobiography and self-help book by judge of the Emmy-nominated Vh1 (formerly Logo television program RuPaul's dRag Race, Michelle Visage.
Before Michelle was turning heads with her bosom and making Drag Queen mascara drip with her mouth on the popular show, she had prior roots in television, radio and pop music. And fans of hers are finally able to delve into the exciting personal and professional life of Michelle Visage, and what life lessons she can now pass on from it.
The Diva Rules is chock-full of words of wisdom and encouragement, focused on how you can remind yourself even in the toughest of situations, that you're a diva.
A year ago when I purchased the book, it wasn't quite the right time for me to read it. I had a steady job that took up all of my time, and was so worried about getting my personal life and sleeping situation together, that I wasn't at all worried about my creativity and professional endeavors.
But after quitting that job and starting a life with someone, I have recently been focusing my energy into doing what fulfills me...writing in this blog you're reading.
I picked up this book in the middle of my journey and it's been incredible reading about the rollercoaster career of someone I am fascinated by and whom I identify with in many ways. Seeing someone create their own destiny despite the many hurdles, talk about their regrets, and give the lowdown on their hindsight isn't necessarily new in the world of autobiographies. But Michelle Visage is a very special person with in my opinion, a very unique goal as an entertainer: To bring out the confidence in the next generation of divas and be an example of what a great ally to the LGBT community is. And that's what makes this book special.
Check out the video below to see what else the book talks about. I don't give away too much, however. To properly absorb what it's trying to put down, I strongly suggest you read the book for yourself. Thanks for checking out my blog.
