Proem Studio Is All About Fresh Starts

We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!

This week, we got to know the dynamic duo behind the Los-Angeles based design firm, Proem Studio. Being that a proem is an introduction or prelude to a chapter of a book, founders Ashley Drost and Marie Trohman have developed a philosophy that design projects mark new chapters and fresh starts for their clients. From coast to coast, they’ve been committed to telling other people’s stories through highly personalized yet timeless designs. Not to mention they’ve compiled a funky and eye-catching collection of their current favorite Chairish finds.

Read on to learn about the Italian vintage scores Ashley and Marie can’t get enough of, and the hilarious titles they’d give their autobiographies.

Coolest vintage piece in your house?
Ashley Drost: A Murano Mazzega chandelier
Marie Trohman: An oversized Italian brass table/floor lamp with a brass shade that I bought from Nickey Kehoe on a whim five years ago. I still don’t have anywhere to put it, but one day it will find the perfect spot!

Pet peeve?
Ashley Drost: Chewing gum
Marie Trohman: LED lights, because they make everyone and everything look terrible.

One talent you wish you had?
Ashley Drost: I wish I could play the piano.
Marie Trohman: I really wish I could keep house plants alive.

Do you collect anything?
Ashley Drost: Vintage silver serve ware and vintage textiles, like Indonesian Ikats and African Kuba cloths.
Marie Trohman: Art books

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Ashley DrostDrost Likely To Succeed
Marie Trohman: She Shouldn’t Dance, because I’m literally the worst, most self-conscious dancer ever.
