Giuseppe's First Halloween

Last week marked Giuseppe’s first ever Halloween! And we wanted to celebrate with a top-notch costume and a nice romp around the neighborhood. After scouring the internet for the perfect costume, we stumbled upon a gorgeous bespoke Sherlock Holmes outfit complete with Deerstalker hat and cape. And I was ecstatic at how great he looked in it.

It was such a beautiful set with so much work and passion put into it, that I had to share it. Join me as I share some of the details of this beautiful costume, as well as how we pulled off some reverse trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.

The Costume

To shop for Giuseppe’s first ever costume, I of course went straight to Etsy. I wanted something artisan made and of excellent quality, as I know this is something I’ll always look back fondly on in his wardrobe.

When I stumbled upon the Belgian shop Binkying Cottons, I knew I had come upon something extraordinary. The shop owner Irene crafts high-quality garments intended for rabbits. And considering Steven’s love for Sherlock Holmes, I knew her interpretation was the perfect costume for our our boy! So I reached out to her about creating something for Giuseppe, and she said she could tailor something for a size small dog!

I sent her Giuseppe’s measurements, and she whipped up the set and had it sent to us by Halloween! And I could not have been more thrilled with how it turned out.

The hat and cape feature an attractive multi-color houndstooth pattern. Notice the charming button closure on the cape’s collar.

And the deerstalker hat features a brown ribbon to add an attractive bow detail to the top.

As for how it was able to sit so perfectly on Giuseppe’s head, that is all thanks to two components of the hat: The adjustable chin strap, as well as the cushion that fills the crown of the hat. This allows the hat to stay atop your pet’s head, rather than around it. This adds more dimension to the overall ensemble and keeps the cap from covering up their face.

It’s details like these that make me want to continue to buy from Irene in the future.

Trick-or-Treating

We planned on passing out candy, but this year it was a bust for our neighborhood. But that didn’t stop us from taking Giuseppe out for a big walk around the neighborhood to see some of the local decorations on this gorgeous fall evening.

We even got to do some reverse Trick-or-Treating and passed around some Halloween-themed cookies for the dogs in the neighborhood. Special delivery from Giuseppe for his canine friends. The cookies are a handmade dog-friendly shortbread sourced from Just Dogs in Newburyport MA. I got some pumpkins, some candy corns and some charming ghosts.

Once again, I want to thank Binkying Cottons and Just Dogs for helping us make Giuseppe’s first Halloween a success. We look forward to his costumes and reverse trick-or-treating becoming a new tradition in our family, and cannot wait to start brainstorming for next year.

Until we meet again!
